Wellness CornerContinuum EAP's Wellness corner features a different wellness topic each quarter. This webpage provides valuable information, resources and links related to the featured wellness topic. May 2008—Quarterly Wellness Corner Topic: Emotional FitnessFitness. What usually comes to mind when we hear this word is—physical exercise, low heart rates and muscled strong bodies. There is another type of fitness however, that is often overlooked but critically important to overall well being—“emotional fitness”. Emotional fitness refers to our ability to identify our feelings and express them, have tolerance and empathy toward others, gain and maintain self awareness and be assertive about our needs. In his recent book Working with Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman emphasizes that the stronger we are in our emotional intelligence the more successful we are likely to be. Continuum-Well Being has chosen emotional fitness as the first topic for our Wellness Corner feature. Please check out the following resources if you would like to learn more about or improve your Emotional Fitness.
