November 2008- Quarterly Wellness Topic: Care for the Caregiver
Whether caring for an elderly relative, a loved one with a chronic illness, special needs child or preparing for a family member’s passing; many people have become primary caregivers for family and friends. While it is something we do willingly and without hesitation, the focus is generally on the recipient of that care. Care givers are often so concerned with the care of their loved one that they neglect personal issues like stress, added financial burdens, personal health issues and how their personal and professional lives are affected by the added responsibilities of being a caregiver.
The purpose of this quarter’s Wellness Corner is to provide valuable information and resources for those of you who are providing care for: chronically ill family members, special needs children and loved ones approaching the end of their lives.
Besides the information and resources on this page, Continuum EAP’s professionals can provide valuable counseling and emotional support to people dealing with the stresses of being a caregiver.
