Managing Holiday Stress

It’s that time of year again. Shopping, baking, time spent with family and friends, and stress. With the joy of the holidays comes the stress of finding the perfect gift or planning the perfect party. The holidays are a time to enjoy family and friends and they don’t have to be as stressful.

Plan ahead and manage your time— Planning ahead will help you to be prepared for what will happen so you aren’t stressed if something doesn’t go as planned. It will make things much easier if you plan what gifts to buy or what food to make beforehand and how long it will take you, so you aren’t stressing out about any last minute details.

Acknowledge your feelings— The holidays can be a stressful time for some because they have lost a loved one or it brings back memories of things they can’t get back. It’s ok to miss someone during the holidays. Acknowledge how you feel instead of keeping your feelings contained and not addressing them.

Say no— Sometimes, a Christmas party every weekend gets to be too much. It’s fine to say no and to spend time at home getting other things done or just relaxing during the busy season. Only take on what you can handle.

Make time for yourself— Although it’s great to be surrounded by those you love during the holidays, it can often be stressful. Make time for yourself so you can recharge and prepare for the next gathering.
